Central Kansas Tooth Replacement Innovation

As one of the most innovative procedures in modern dentistry, dental implants are the highest standard of care to replace a missing tooth. We offer both full and mini-implants as part of our tooth-conserving approach to dentistry. With an implant, the surrounding teeth are not affected, as they are with a bridge, making implant dentistry the most conservative way to treat a missing tooth.

The first motivator to replace a missing tooth usually is cosmetic. We have had patients come to our office feeling terribly discouraged about their missing tooth or teeth because it looks unattractive. Many think their only option is an unattractive partial denture or an uncomfortable bridge. That is just not true. One of the most innovative procedures in dentistry today, dental implants restore youth and the cosmetic appearance of the smile.

What are Dental Implants?

A dentist wearing gloves shows a dental implant model to a smiling woman sitting in a dental chair. The text overlay reads, "With Dental Implants, the surrounding teeth are not affected.

Dental implants consist of an exceptionally strong post placed into the jawbone and topped with a porcelain tooth. The posts are made of Titanium and are fused with the bone to make a new tooth root. Over this root, we place a gorgeously natural replacement tooth to cover the metal post and act as a brand new, naturally functioning tooth.

At our practice, we make every effort to minimize reducing teeth or affecting the tooth structure. With an implant, replacing a tooth focuses us only on that one issue. Unlike bridges where the surrounding teeth might be affected, using an implant allows our work to be more conservative in fixing the problem of a missing tooth.

It’s also important to know that dental implants can be placed at the same time as a tooth extraction is performed. This allows the patient to undergo fewer treatments to replace a tooth that must be extracted. In one visit, the extraction can be done and the implant can be placed.

With a dental implant, there is no removal of a prosthetic appliance, no soaking and no constant discomfort.

Reducing Health Risks of Missing Teeth

A missing tooth is not just a cosmetic or comfort issue. It is a health issue. Your jawbone relies on the regular stimulation that occurs in chewing. When a tooth is missing, the chewing pressure is not exerted in that place on the bone beginning a process of atrophy. Left untreated, the body reabsorbs the jawbone, causing a hollowed-out look and an unhealthy circumstance for your entire oral health system.

Dental implants allow full function for chewing, which preserves the bone and restores full function. For this reason, replacing missing teeth with a dental implant is the best long-term care decision you can make when you have a missing tooth.

And when you chew with an implant, you can eat almost anything you’d like. Bite into a sweet ear of corn without worry of slipping dentures. Chomp into a crisp apple knowing that your teeth are strong and secure. You can even chew gum! Normal use helps you avoid the health risks of a missing tooth.

We also offer Mini-Implants!

Mini dental implants have a considerably short recovery time and can be placed in a single dental appointment. There are no incisions and no sutures, which means healing is fast and comfortable and you won’t have to return to have your stitches removed. Mini implant placement is so comfortable, that many patients need only Novocain for pain!

How Do Mini Implants Work?

Mini dental implants are very similar to traditional implants but are so small, and placed with such precision, that they do not require cutting or suturing. Instead of cutting a flap of tissue away from the bone to place the implant posts, mini implants are placed through a tiny channel into the bone. Often crowns or implant-supported dentures can be placed the same day the post is placed so you can leave our office with a comfortable, new smile you can be proud of.
