Dental implants are quickly becoming the standard of care for patients with missing teeth due to the role they play in preventing bone loss in the jaw, but some patients don’t have adequate bone density to tolerate the full sized implants. At Central Kansas Dentistry, Dr. Kurt Williams can place mini implants in a single visit.
Mini dental implants are much like regular dental implants, but they are smaller, and do not require cutting away a flap of tissue to get placed in the bone. Instead, they are placed very precisely through a channel in the jawbone.
Mini implants can support crowns, bridges or implant supported dentures. They are made of the same titanium alloy as regular-size dental implants and have the same coating that allows them to fuse to the jaw bone helping prevent further bone loss and deterioration of the size and shape of the jawline. The procedure for placing mini implants requires less drilling into bone and causes less post-operative discomfort.
